Craftsmanship and artistic composition have always been an interest of designer Sandra Schmidt. During her studies at the University of Art and Design and the Estonian Academy of Arts in Tallinn and working for designers such as Jessica Ogden in London and Harm Jopp in Hamburg deepened her interest. An artist-in-residence finally brought her to Vienna, where the label mangelware was created. The designs for the label focus on knitwear and are supplemented with selected items that express the preference for pleated fabrics, ruffles and colors.
All mangelware items were produced in Austria and Germany with the help of our talented cooperation partners who bring their knowledge, skills and attention to detail into our products.
In 2020 the 'mangelware studio & shop' was opened in Viennas 2nd district. There the fashion cosmos is expanded through artistic exhibitions and collaborations and presented in the wide field of art, textiles and craftsmanship.
Almost our entire range of knitwear is made in Saxony (GER) well known for its long tradition in textile manufacturing. Unfortunately, there aren't as many companies as there used to be, so we're all the happier with our proven and long-term cooperation.
All plisees are handcrafted in our studio. In addition to a good feeling for the material, you need a lot of patience and perseverance to manufacture it.
Because color is always very important for our ideas, there are different dyeing and printing projects in different processes, such as silk screen printing, foil or sublimation printing.
